HUMAN RIGHTS
The Right to Health

Affecting every aspect of one's life, health is a human right that should exist regardless of one's social, economic, or religious position. However, a disease known as Tuberculosis rages through areas such as Annawadi, killing thousands of people every year. Living with such diseases but deserving the unalienable right to live in a clean environment and receive governmental support when ill, the people of Annawadi and other Mumbai slums must work especially hard to protect their families and maintain hope for their futures.
The Right to Equality

Should freedom from accusation really be "bought and sold like a kilo of polyurethane bags" as Abdul Husain describes the judicial system in Annawadi (107)? Regardless of race, religion, or social position, every human deserves the right to equality in the law. However, this is not currently the case in Annawadi, India.
Your Ability to Help

Although donating money or spreading awareness of the Annawadis' plight will not immediately solve their problems, it is definitely a first step. Vocalizing the problems will allow people with power to make changes to the corrupt governmental system so that your well-wishes can reach the people of slums like Annawadi.
